He started off in simple martial arts garb with dark hair, a look that hints that he could have easily been the protagonist of his own fighting game series in another timeline. Hokuto's errant older brother Kairi went through what may be the wildest evolution from SFEX1 to SFEX2. Both are fine, though the EX2 design feels almost like an intended alternate costume in the vein of Tekken's more casual Player 2 outfits.

I like that it provides an alternative traditional flavor for the character, though - and this is with the full admission that OG Hokuto's maybe looking a bit too close to Art of Fighting's Ryuhaku and Kasumi Todoh in terms of color scheme - it clashes a bit compared to the more reserved palette of her first design. I'm so used to seeing everyone's EX3 designs that I had no idea Hokuto ever wore anything that didn't have heavy amounts of white on it, so this design is a bit of a shock to me. I imagined this as being "casual" Hokuto when she wasn't training upon first giving the EX2 design a serious glance, but I didn't expect to be so on the money. I've seen her new outfit described as a komon kimono, which is apparently a form of dress for informal settings, such as lounging in your house. She also discards her headband and wears her hair in a ponytail held with a green band. Her kimono's sleeves are noticeably longer and boast a floral pattern on them. She now wears a pink kimono with green hakama and a gold obi (waist sash).
Simple, effective, and colorful.įor her design in the sequel, the EX artists opted for something a bit different. She dons the uniform that most students of naginatajutsu wear, a white and blue ensemble with a breastplate for protection and a single glove to hold her weapon. That can mean a good many things, but it does include weapon fighting, which would fit her given her propensity for the naginata. Her attire and story details in SFEX1 seem to imply that she is a kobudō practitioner. Think Ayane from Dead or Alive but comparatively more conflicted about her hitjob. She is a dutiful daughter from a reclusive clan, sent on a mission to slay a runaway sibling. We start off the EX crew with its ostensible lead Hokuto (birthname Shirase).
